Re: 1983 305 berlinetta..?

One of the best improvements yo your LG4 305 is replacing the exhaust. But don't order for the LG4(eighth VIN digit H).You want to order the headers, with A.I.R. provisions, and y-pipe for the L69(eight VIN s in '83 and G for '85-'86).Most here prefer the Hooker 2055.With this you will want a hiflow cat(Catco makes a good one) for the L69 along with the catback(again for the L69)to complete the package. On the catback I prefer Dynomax Super Turbos because they flow well and don't drone at highway speeds.read the stickies in the exhaust section for more info.

On the intake you can go with a smog legal Edlebrock performer and performer carb. Also you will want to go with a high quality ignition parts(/rotor with brass contacts),new plug wires - MSD 8.5 are about the best and a new coil(go with MSD as ACCEL has had quality problems lately).

I'm sure others will give you better/more suggestions.

The Performer carb isn't smog legal on 3rd gens. Only the EGR version of the Performer intake is smog legal.

Technically, the only smog legal C.A.R.B. certified LG4 headers are the LG4 Edelbrock TES. If you use the L69 headers, you basically have to show that you've made the rest of it an L69 - not particularly difficult, as L69 aftermarket legal cams aren't hard to come by - the L69 air cleaner is a different story. Hooker 2055HKR's are not C.A.R.B. certified for any carb application - whether Herr Inspektor will care about that is a crap shoot.

What did you replace of the ignition?

By the way, all of this is covered in the 305 thread on the FAQ forum.
