Aftermarket Ignitions
Hey guys I'm new to V8's and Chevys. In a Honda the EFI was very efficient and you could use the stock iginitions on 500HP turbo engines. Is there anything to gain on a 305TPI in a 1991 RS by using an MSD or similar ignition module/coil etc?
*edit* Actually I dont even know if it's TPI or TBI, how do I tell?

If it is a V8 and an RS model with the original engine, it's a 305 TBI. You can tell by: Looking at the 8th character of the VIN - E = TBI, F or 8 = TPI; looking at the engine - does it have a round air cleaner with a snorkel on top of the engine? If so, it's TBI. Again, assuming it has what the factory put in.
The ignition control module and the coil are a little on the weak side from the factory. There isn't much to be gained beyond replacing those with performance aftermarket parts.

OK great, I get it now. Mine is totally original and it does have a round aircleaner. Will replacing the ICM and coil gain any HP on a stock engine or a stock engine with bolt ons?
