I wanna know once and for all why I cant set timing the normal way and correct way?
I have posted this question before with no luck. I have changed the ICM on the dizzy and still cant set timing.
Now what gives!....why cant I do it?
YES Im disconnecting the EST plug but nothing changes.

Re: TIMING! WTF!
well if you disconnect te est plug then that would mean that you are taking computer advance out of the problem. you should be setting base timing at that time. did you reset the computer afterwards? if not then disconect the negative battery terminal for a min. or so. then reconnect it. if you have upgrades it might take the computer a couple drives to "relearn" itself.

Re: TIMING! WTF!
I have posted about this a few times. I know to disconnect the EST plug...but when I do nothing changes. Ive changed the ICM on the dizzy.
If I shoot the balancer with the plug connected or disconnected the reading dont change at all. I want to st it to 6* base timing but cant get anywhere near it. Then when I get as close as I can and reconnect everything, when I give it gas I start getting backfire thru the intake and the TPI air ducting, so I set it back to where its sounds right which is way to high and then I get bad *** detonation. SO WTF...MSD doesnt know why and have told me a bunch of stupid **** to try but that hasnt dont anything.
My next thing to change is probably the ESC (electronic Spark Control) which is that module on the drivers firewall but I dont think that will change anything.

Re: TIMING! WTF!
EST is tan with black stripe behind the passenger side strut tower.
maybe your balancer is off or slipping/not adjusted right.

Re: TIMING! WTF!
OK..heres what Ive done and Im hoping it is a way to set timing. ITs the only way ive been able to do it.
I did the same thing as if I was going to set my IAC with the paper clip jumping the A-B on the ALDL. So once I jumped to pins I waited about 30secs and disconnected both the IAC and the EST for the timing. I then shot the balancer with the gun and to my surprize it was right on 6* which is what my chip guy told me to set it to.
SO tell me? is that another way to set timing?
its the only way I have found to be able to do it.
I did that after researching my other thread and found that and gave it a try.

Re: TIMING! WTF!
wait you said something about contacting MSD, is your igniton system modified in anyway? what are you running? If you're running an msd box are you sure it's wired in properly? Have you tried setting timing without the msd box (if you have one) connected? Basically what I'm asking is have you tried setting timing with all stock components and nothing aftermarket connected?
