Gunky Internals
Alright well I shoulda seen this coming since Ive found 100 other half *** jobs on this car. I took off the carb and looked into the intake and noticed a white powerd kinda looked like little rock salt or something. Im assuming its oxidation so I thought well it prolly went farther down into the engine so I pulled the manifold and sure enough its gotten into the heads and theres some other gunk in there too. I havent started the engine yet but I just finished the fuel system which was supposed to be the last thing before I could run it. So Im wondering what my options are. Obvioulsy the engine should not be run like this. What can I do? Is the only good option to rebuild the engine? Heres some pics to show what Im talking about

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Gunky Internals
The white corrosion doesn't look like anything worth worrying about. Certainly not anything that would prevent the engine from running. Looks like what gets there when stuff sits around for awhile.

It looks like the engine has been rained in.
Will it even turn over?
Is it a roller block with gen 1 cam and heads?

Sure hope they weren't dropped down on the original roller cam.
I'd worry more about the rain down the carb. Nobody does that much work to an engine and just sets it out without a reason...
It's a puzzler all right.

Re: Gunky Internals
Well the engine turns over no problem. Its a gen 1 roller with cam and the stock l98 heads. And the guy that worked on this car last wasnt to bright. The translines were just hacked off liek he didnt need them, the engine wasnt bolted down it was just sitting on the mounts, etc etc. Well Im just going to clean otu the lifter valley as best as I can I guess put the carb and intake back on and continue confusing myself with the timing lol. BTW does anyone know of a good guide or site that explains how to set the base timing for a situation like mine. The dizzy was pulled out multiple times b4 i purchased it so I wanna make sure that is set correctly.
Thanks for the responses guys!
