Dart heads/autolite plugs

I did a brief search and came up with angle vs straight plugs and fitment using headers. My problem is my sparkplugs do not want to screw into my heads. They are the Dart sportsman 2's and the plugs I have are autolite 86's.

Im going to call Dart monday and see what they recomend for my setup. The autolite site showed the 86's were good for my application ( Im running a early 70's 350 ect, ect. ) But I was wondering if this was a common problem or if anyone has had the same issues.

Thanks in advance.

Plugs go with the head, not the block.

How old are these heads? Sportsman 2's have been a World product for several years.

Re: Dart heads/autolite plugs

They are world product. I use the 70's reference to get my plugs from Autolite ( est horspeower ect. ) sbc heads are different from say a LT1 and LS1 right? I mean can i put the same plug out of a LS1 or LT1 into a sbc head? Same threads is what Im getting at. Ill use the proper plug, I just want to know why its not going in.

Re: Dart heads/autolite plugs

From the Dart catalog for the Sportsman II heads:

Spark Plugs: Accepts 14mm .460" reach tapered seat 5/8" hex
Champion #670 or #802 - or equivalent)
Link to that page of the catalog:

http://www.worldcastings.com/catalog/19.pdf

I've always used Autolite 24 plugs, myself.

Re: Dart heads/autolite plugs

If the Sportsman II heads use this "Spark Plugs: Accepts 14mm .460" reach tapered seat 5/8" hex"

Then a Champion RV8C or AC R42T will work very nicely.
