Re: SPEED PRO PISTON ID ?

Those other numbers are misc manufacturing stuff; mold cavities, shift codes, casting dates, stuff like that. TOTALLY USELESS once the pistons are in a box.

Sorry, no instructions; even though I've used some like that before. I don't recall any surprises though.

Have you tried going to your local speed shop, and offering the guy behind the counter a 6-pack if he'll pull a set off the shelf and loan you the instr sheet long enough to go to the library and copy it? I realize it's not "free", like getting somebody to post it on the Net; but it shouldn't cost more than a quarter or so. Might even get to help consume the 6.

Re: SPEED PRO PISTON ID ?

The seal on my set was broke also, Im not that worried about it, I dont think youj should be either.

Also, interesting note. I had a HELL of a time finding those pistons. Apparently Speed Pro is moving their production to India and they're having a lot of quality control problems right now, which is why even on summit's site a few of their pistons arent due for another month or two.

I managed to snag a coated set since most of the ebay shops didnt carry .060 over, and the ones that did flat out told me they only had a fwe sets left.

I bought mine since I had a perfectly good set of 7, and I was going to pair up an 8th to it. But the castings were CLEARLY different from my 1 new one to the 7 old ones. The part numbers are clearly the same. After more inspection, pretty much everything about htem is just a little different.

I was going to go get them all balanced up but I figured I'd just splurge for a new coated set for the peace of mind.

Turns out the older set was made in the USA, the newer piston (and my new full set) are made in Italy, and pretty soon they're all gonna be made in India.

So if you want some Italian made ones over some Indian ones, you better snag em up now. Although I doubt it'll be that big of a deal, even if they're currently having quality control problems...

Re: SPEED PRO PISTON ID ?

Federal mogul is moving there piston manufacturing completely to india. They are out of a ton of pistons. They are actually buying Silvolites and reboxing them on there more popular #s . It is not uncommon to get a set with pistons made in different places. They are still a matched set so you should be ok. The difference in looks doesnt affect the part, or functionality.
