Pick-up Coil
Im having trouble removing this metal sheild around my pick up coil. i have a 1992 305 Camaro RS, and lately it has been giving me problems. it will start up run and when i start driving it it just stalls. i unplug the power wires and spark attached to the coil plug them back in and i runs. i had my ICM checked out and it is fine. some i narrowed it to the pick-up. any thoughts on how to remvove that sheild and get to the screws holding it in? Thank you

Re: Pick-up Coil
Not worth the Trouble.
a Remanufactured Distributer is less then 100 buck from Advance Auto Parts or who ever is in your area.
If you do change the pickup coil that might not fix all of your problems. What about the Advance Weight and the other parts. Not worth Breaking something if you might just end up replacing it anyway, but its your money,.

Re: Pick-up Coil
I disagree, a pickup coil is only like $10. That's better than $100 IMO. Have you removed the distributor from the engine? When I last did one, I just pulled the distributor, knocked out the pin in the gear, disassembled the shaft and it came right out. Not that hard. Especially since I was a 19 year old kid that didn't know jack about cars at the time.

Re: Pick-up Coil
The distributor you are dealing with does not use advance weights. In order to remove the pick-up coil the distributor shaft must be removed. Then remove the center retainer clip (most likely destroying it in the process) and the retainer (shield) and pick-up coil can be removed.
