Seach button isent working... Cam question, how big of lift without changing valve te
So im going to be ordering and intake and carb this week and i figure hell i might as well upgrade the cam and lifters while im in their.
so my question is i was to get more power by gettin a cam but i dont want to have to mess with my springs, pushrods, rockers.
i just want the cam and lifters.
which brand and lift can i go without having to upgrade mm=y whole valve terrain.
73 black and heads 75cc chambers stock but rebuilt. 350cid daily driver, 3.08 10 bolt rear 5 speed WC t5
holly dp 650 holly street dominator intake.
stock exaust now but it will have headers and 30 inch with an flowmaster 80
apriciate the help. i tryed searchign but the search must be down and i need to figure out what all of this is going to run me,
thanks.

Yeah, upgraded heads are a nice thing to have, but it's not written in stone that you have to have them just to put a better cam than stock in. Even with smogger heads, an aftermarket cam will make a noticeable difference over the stock one. From what you typed, I'm assuming you need a flat tappet style cam for an older motor right? If so, I'd recommend the 280 Magnum from Comp Cams. I know several guys who've run this cam without upgrading anything else in the valvetrain. New springs wouldn't be a bad idea, but you'd probably be ok without them. If you did decide to get some springs, just buy the HD Z/28 style springs from Scoggin Dickey. They're only about $60, and they'll get the job done. My brother put the same cam in his 350 with smog heads, and he's also running a Holley 650 DP, and it really woke it up. He never changed springs either. That was about 7 years ago, and it's still running great. In fact, putting a new intake and carb on would be a waste of time and money if you don't upgrade from that puny stock cam. While you're at it, I'd recommend throwing a new, double roller timing chain in there too.

I'd reconsider the springs if you're improving the cam profile. All that lift and ramp are great if the valves actually follow the lobes.
