Ticking Noise... strange how it happened
I was driving my 92 T/A in some heavy rain going 30mph when i drove into a deep water puddle. The car almost came to a complete stop immeadiatly as well as the motor nearly dying. I got the RPMs back up with a little TLC and figured the large amount of water choked out my car.... no biggy right? Well about two blocks later, with no change in performance, I pull into a parking lot and here was sounds like a lifter knock. I've pulled the valve covers and none of the rocker arms are going crazy. Should every single rocker be shooting out oil or only when they're engaging? This is a car that hasn't broke a single thing in 5 years and she's been taken out by a puddle!!! I have a moderate knowlege of engines but i'm outta my league...

Does it feel like its down on power or missing? Also, is the sound at idle or does it go away when the rpm comes up? I agree, strange, hopefully is something simple or something that goes away on its own.

the speed of the ticking DOES increase with RPM. There is no apparent decrease in power

Uh oh, I hope you didn't hydro-lock it...

I know a guy that hydro-locked one - bent a connecting rod. However, he had a cylinder fill with water while the engine was off, and the damage happened at startup. The only reason he knew something happened was a light ticking noise. If yours was running the whole time it doesn't seem as likely.

It's not the first time, a local guy here fell victim to the exact same thing.
If it's a rod that's making the noise, you're gonna have to tear the whole motor down. Might as well do a full rebuild, upgrades if you can afford it.

what if it died for a brief second... would that be enough? and if so how could i tell that thats the problem? And if there was gas in the motor, wouldnt it just burn it off?

I have never experienced it myself, but heard about it before. Do you think you could have digested any significant volumn of water? Hope not, good luck getting it firgured out and hope you get it worked out soon.

One of the reasons I don't drive through puddles of water. You don't know how deep the water is. In fact i try not to even drive in the rain, especially heavy rain. Our cars don't like bad weather.
