Is this cam a upgrade? l69

Performer-Plus 2102

RPM RANGE: 1500-5500

Duration at 0.006" Lift: Intake: 278° Exhaust: 288°
Duration at 0.050" Lift: Intake: 204° Exhaust: 214°
Lift at Cam: Intake: 0.280" Exhaust: 0.295"
Lift at Valve: Intake: 0.420" Exhaust: 0.442"
Timing at 0.050" lift: Open Close
Intake: 5° ATDC 29° ABDC
Exhaust: 44° BBDC 10° BTDC
Centerlines: Lobe Separation - 112° Intake Centerline - 107°

Is this cam much of an upgrade over the stock '83 cam or is it about the same?

I got this kit new in a box with a 2101 performer intake on a trade...

I know some will dis-approve, but I have always liked the powerband of this cam in a 305. It will not make as much HP/TQ as some other more modern, hotter grinds, but it is easy on the valvetrain, runs silently, and has good driveablity. It will run on the 305 CCC Q-Jets stock ECM chip and carb settings. It will also run cleanly enough to pass the emissions test in any part of the country. I really enjoyed my 305 with this cam in it. Ported the 601 heads while I was at it and installed 1.94/1.60" valves into them.

if you already have it... run it... it will be an improvement later when you get bored with it you might look at one of the 262/268 cams from comp

That cam won't make any noticeable gain over the L69 cam. Its pretty much the same. Only difference is a little more lift and a little smaller LSA. Not worth it.

If your L69 is healthy, put something in the 214-218* duration @ .050" and you'll start to notice a difference.

That little tighter LSA is HUGE. Easy to make 25 ft/lbs more torque from 1,500-3,500 rpm. My 1983 G20 did have the same cam as the L69 in it. I put the Federal Mogul CS1014R into it. The difference in torque, throttle response, and HP was immediately apparent.
