I just installed a rebuilt 700r4 in my 86 iroc and it shifts real good and solid into all gears but if i get on it ,at about 130mph it kicks out of overdrive and tachs out until i let off it then it goes right back into gear i know its not a bad trany cause like i said it shifts nice and solid into all gears ,it never slips goin into gears just when i try to top it out it kicks out of gear,i just spent about $700 on it and i dont want to mess it up so any suggestions would b greatly appreciated,thanx in advance,joe

oh one more thing this is an 88 700r4 out of a suburban and i notice the lockout is wired different than my stock 86 trans,could this b my problem? thanx again

Your transmission is working properly The stock 700R4 is designed not to shift into OD at wide open throttle...

You can get around this if you really want to..... B&M makes a valve you can install that allows the tranny to go into OD during WOT.. It's a small part, but I don't know how difficult it is to install. I've never done it.

i am sure that the trans should not be coming out of gear... if you can hit 130 on a track of course.... then it is in 4 already and it should stay in gear what the actual cause is however... i have no idea

yeah my old trans never kicked out of od at wot and it doesnt seem normal cause when i push the accelerator down in od it kicks into drive and then back into od and then it kicks out of overdrive at about 130mph after it already been in od from i would say about 85-90, my old trans just had a shift kit and i could run it up to about 155-160 with no problems ,never kicked out of gear and when it kicks out of od it tachs out and stops pullin like i put it in neutral .i dont know thanx for the replys though guys

GTA Jim is correct. WOT and OD don't happen together without some aftermarket persuasion.
50% throttle will get you going faster in OD. If your road is long enough you'll be able to top the car out in OD.

i just got done rewiring the lockup and taking the tv plungr sleeve out of my old trans and putting in the new one and i got pretty much the same results,what kind of aftermarket persuasion do i need? cause my old trans never ever kicked out of od at wot and would fly now i got a good trans but it wont stay in od at wot and i dont like it so i want to fix it ,so what do i need to do,and do i need to pull the valve-body to do it?thanks in advance

i was under the impression that the trans wouldnt do the 3/4 shift at WOT but would stay in 4 under WOT if it was already there...

no it wont go in to od at wot but if i let up of the accelerator it will go in to od at about 95-100 and then i can floor it again and run it up 2 about 130 when it kicks out of overdrive but if i hold it at half peddle it will stay in od just not at wot

Your transmission won't stay in OD at WOT. It was designed that way. The effect is intentional.

It has nothing at all to do with the TV cable or the torque converter clutch. You need to drop the pan and modify the transmission... That's the ONLY way... As I mentioned in my previous post, B&M makes a kickdown kit that will allow your transmission to stay in OD at WOT.

yeah i know its supposed to do that now, and i dont like it ,i was just clarifying the fact and the kit you suggested will not allow wot in od either it will only allow 3/4 peddle in od like the ad says but i did happen to find the right kit its called a b&m th-700r4 wide-open throttle 3-4 upshift kit(summitracing.com part#BMM-70249) and it will allow od at wot,but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

I've got the "special" B&M WOT TV sleeve, and while it works as advertised, i don't like it all too much personally. My tranny builder kinda slipped it in w/o the heads up. Don't always like to drop the hammer just to get around someone like Mario Andretti when a more casual half throttle downshift would be a better solution.

are u talkin about the wot 3-4th upshift kit or the kickdown kit?what do u mean drop the hammer to get around mario andretti? im just tryin to get it to stay in OD at WOT so i dont have to worry about pushin the peddle down to far and having it downshift at 130mph and redlinin' the crap out of it and tearin the trans up ,what dont u like about it ? cause i just ordered the #BMM-70249 today,i just want to make sure that its gonna do what i want it to do,like if i got it flat on the floor in 3rd and shift to fourth at about 6000rpm will it shift in to fourth and stay there until i let off it?thanks in advance.

How much farther beyond WOT do you think you can push the throttle? WOT is all the way. At 130mph you shouldn't even need to touch the throttle to pass someone.

update:installed the th-700r4 wide-open throttle 3-4 upshift kit,Part #(BMM-70249) and it works awesome no more downshiftin and redlinin,works just like she used to,thanks for the replies guys.
