Re: Turn key-NO click-NO nothing

i once had a turn-key no click or anything. mine is FI so the fuel pump i can hear. anyways, turn the key to "on" and go under the hood and hotwire (with a screwdriver) the starter... there are 3 nubs, but only 2 of them have wires... if it sparks and tries to turn over, then it's the neutral safety switch, or a wire to the starter is messed up / old. if you have a cluth, your NSS is by the top of the clutch pedal. if you have an auto, i *think* it's right under the console shifter. like $6 for the auto one.

Re: Turn key-NO click-NO nothing

They also sometimes get "stuck." I'm not sure what actually happens, but if you tap the starter with something like a rubber mallet, it will sometimes work afterwards. This used to happen to me all the time until I installed a new starter.

Re: Turn key-NO click-NO nothing

i just decided to troubleshoot myself and of course i am a genius. thanks for all the help. it was not the nuetral safety switch. and when it gets "stuck", its usually the selinoid. if you jump the selinoid it will have no choice but to turn the starter. the only thing is, is that its worn or broken to the point where the gear wont extract and turn the flywheel. so its my selinoid i guess...i jacked it up and tore the starter and selinoid out. sure enough, the small post that signals from battery to selinoid to engage was loose. time for a new one!

Re: Turn key-NO click-NO nothing

UPDATE: ok so i bought a new starter replaced the old one cleaned connections everything that would be done in a shop...still nothing. so i went on to the inside of the car pulling screws and hacking away at the underdash on drivers side. checked the clutch safety switch seems to work fine but pulled he plug anyway. still nothing. next i jumped a wire between the plug to connect directly the wires, still NOTHING. what do you guys think? POSSIBLY ignition switch gone bad??? IM RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS PATIENCE AND CASH

Man if you're desperate for ideas, try bypassing the VATS system.

Re: Turn key-NO click-NO nothing

VAT problem may leave sercurity lamp on. Does it come on then go out? Pull the driver kick panel off and below hood release is a starter enable relay.Look for 12v. on yellow wire. That comes in from ignition switch start. Feeds the coil and top of relay. The pass key mod. pulls the DK Green wire to gound, to complete coil "energize" and them 12v. comes out of the DR. green w/wht wire to gear select/ clutch switch. Goes through them, then to starter via. purple wire. This is for 89 firebird. Just did that crap last night on mine. Hope this helps. Good-Luck.

Re: Turn key-NO click-NO nothing

O.K. but the rest still should apply. You should have the resistor in key? Do you have the relay I talked about. I'm not knowledgeable about Camaro's but my 89 T/A should be close??????. Are you getting 12v from ignition switch atleast? If you don't have the same system as me, then I'm sorry. Otherwise the wire colors should help you out bigtime!!!
