New Engine Build ~VS~ Old Engine Rebuild
My Friend finally convinced me to get my old motor out of the car and build a new one.
Well, I have finally had it with the old motor.. Had a 92 Vette 350 punched out .030, The Mechanic put a Steel Crank from a truck, He did put SIR I rods in with Forged Deep dish pistons. When I was running a 1227730 ECM I didn't receive an excessive amount of knock counts until I switched to the 7749 Turbo Ecm. I am almost 100% positive that nothing was balanced properly.
I have a new 880 SBC 350 CID block being built professionally now. He told me he had to Torque Plate the block and punch it out .030 over because of a flaw in a cylinder. He is in the process right now of putting JE Forged Pistons and good H-Rods in. I am running an Eagle 4340 Forged Crank and Clevite Bearings. I am not going to use the old Harmonic Balancer or Flex Plate because as He is going to balance and Blueprint this engine and I would be wasting my time using old parts. I have 2 identical cams which are Crower 00483lm blower cams.
My question is..? Because of the previous mechanic, Not balancing the engine and probably using wrong parts anyway, Would that give the knock Sensor excessive knock counts? And do you think with the new engine I can almost elminate unwanted counts as long as I get a good tune through the ECM?
