Re: car turns off when running
Sounds similar to my problem, which I have not found the answer to yet, but fuel pump/pressure is a good start.
Could also be EGR valve or TPS sensor or MAP sensor.

When it is dead check for spark.
Could be a bad ignition module. They tend to crap out when they get hot, especially at idle/low rpm's.

Re: car turns off when running
The only situations I can think of where they would crap out over bumps is if the connectors (there are two ) are getting worn or corroded and making bad contact.
Have you confirmed WHY yours is dying (spark, fuel)? that would be my first step. An inline spark tester will let the car run. Just watch it as it dies. if the ignition is working properly, the spark should "go down with the ship" , sparking until the engine stops.

Re: car turns off when running
I think its spark related why it dies, unless all the injectors are shutting down at once (dont believe so), but its difficult to check as one second its running, next second its stopped, and I cant get it to fail at will, its totally random.
Spark tester was showing good spark when it was idling fine, but it would then anyway.
I guess I can try to stall it when its connected, but its so instant I dont think it would tell me much :-(

Re: car turns off when running
Does it just die or does it hesitate like when you have a hot cam?
From what you're saying it sounds like a bad wire but it could be lack of fuel (vapor lock maybe) or a bad catalytic converter plugging the exhaust, very unlikely but it happened to me and you have to cats.
Give us more details.

See the attached pdf. This is from a '91 service manual but it might help you. Looking at the pictures it appears the two connectors are different sizes. Good luck.

Re: car turns off when running
This sounds like your car isn't getting any fuel. Lookup how you can check the fuel pump or filter. On a TBI car the fuel pressure is around 10-12 psi, for TPI it could be in the 40s - look it up. Easiest thing to do is check the pressure just to get an idea of what is going on.
This might not be electrical at all.
