Hello...I have some troubles I think with my Emission system

Have a 87-Camaro with the Computer Controlled system...
My engine is a 305 with a rochester carb in it..Original...

Shouldn't my check engine light come on when i am turning ignition to ON??
I have bought a Code retriever that I am waiting on...Should be shipped from US today....

I have also tried to Connect the to terminals on the Assembly Line..A and B right??....Nothing comes on....Either a flash or nothing...completly dark...

Have a little problem with my idle speed and a little problem starting the car when it's hot so I want to check my emission system that nothing there is wrong...

Anyone have an idea??...Please help me with this one...

How sure are you that it's computer controlled?

1.Cause I have this Diagnoser under my dash

2. There are many solenoids, valves and other wires around my carb...

3. There are just tooo many wires that this could be a regular carb without anything computer controlling...

LG4s for export were not computer controlled, more often than not. The ALDL connector is still present under the dash in non-computer cars, and there's still all sorts of wiring and vacuum devices all around the carb.

then why do ihave a check engine light...For some couple of months ago the "check engine light" did come on when I was driving...And suddenly it went off again...???

I'm sorry for the other thread guys...That one below this one..I don't know where the heck I have got the "Check Engine Light" word from...Must be something I have heard from other ones...

I went down to my car and looked in to some manuals...And the light name is "Service engine soon"...I have this light in my car...

But this light does not come on when i am starting my car...Shouldn't it do that??...Could it be just the bulb???...

There was a time some months ago the light came on during driving and then went off again...Haven't seen anything of it since that time...

And when i am doing a "Test" nothing is flashing...It's completely dark...

Anyone have an idea??..Please help me with this one..

If you are positive the engine is computer controlled and the light does not come on when the key is on, most likely you have bad wiring to the bulb or the bulb has blown out.

Even when the ECM is bad or even if it's unplugged/getting no power, the SES light will come on and stay on while running, rather than come on, flash, and stay on until engine is running.

ok...thanks for the help...I will check if it get's any voltage at all...Then it is probably the bulb...I am sorry about this "check Engine" word I have written...The word I was looking for is Service Engine Soon...

And concluding to my Manual every camaro that has this light (US Camaro's)
Has the Computer Command Control System so I definetly have it...

I also have this Haynes Repair Manual for 82-92 Camaros and concluding to the componements on the carburettor they are showing there under Emission controll systems I have the same...

I've solved that little problem...I've checked the bulb and it was just bad contact...The light is working now...I have also checked the emission system and it looks like everything works...So i am happy...Good start on the weekend

The check engine light should always come on with key on, engine off. If it lights up while the car is running, then you have yourself a problem. I would replace the bulb if it doesn't ever light up with the key on.

Yeah..Thanks for the tip..I have already checked the bulb and it seemed like there was bad contact...So now it is working fine..

What if the light bulb has good contact. I switched out the light bulb and it still won’t come on and I can’t diagnose my codes
