you can probley put a freeze plug with the motor in, but I don't know. Sounds like you're mechanically inclined enough to understand a book so buy a book ****** the motor and build it. The best learning experience ever. Hell 170k yeah I think its time to learn how to build a motor. its not that hard with a good book.

ah that engines still got life left mines over 260K now and still runs very good just replace the plug it might cost $1 but you will need to monitor your cooling system for a few days after make sure you arent losing coolant
you defenitly could do it with the engine in though might need to pull exhaust manifold and plugs but it is doable

im not saying you havent caused serious damage i am saying for a $1 you can find out watch the coolant level if your not losing fluid you are probably safe...do an oil change and take a look in the oil after you have run the engine with the new plug

Take off the exaust manifold on that side and take a look. I have seend the block crack and not push the freeze plug out but you never know. It is free to take a look. Dont spend any money till you know exackly what the problem is.

Re: um ya need major help leak in block (freeze plug)
That's because the freeze plugs aren't intended to protect the block from freezing. They're to fill holes leftover from the casting process.
