engine build questions

My 305 is about to bite the dust, and I cant wait. I just have a few questions about a *mostly street* performance build...
Heres what I'm planning:
-1997 10243880 2-bolt main 350 .030 over w/ all ARP
-906 Vortec heads w/ 3-angle valve job
-Holey Stealth Ram
-Comp Cams beehive springs/retainers/locks for ~.550 lift
-Scat forged I-beams OR Eagle H-beams??
-Speedpro pistons in the 9.8-10.2 range
-Maybe a cam like a ZZ-9 or a LPE 74211...maybe the CC268?
-Scat 9000 cast crank
-Comp Cams hydraulic roller lifters/1.5 or 1.6 full rollers(depends on cam)/XE pushrods
-everything balanced and block will be align honed as well

With a 700r4 (previous owner had it rebuilt), 3.42 rear, what kind of power can I expect on the motor? To the wheels?
If I stroked this engine, with everything else staying the same, what would the gains be?
Thanks for any input!!

Re: engine build questions

well i would have 1.94" intake valves put in before any other head work... probably see more gains.

stroker would make more power but will cost more..
the 1.5 roller rockers would be more cost effective as you will never notice the 1.6s with the vortecs and those cams.. vortecs are supposedly best near or around stock lifts and start to drop off above .500 lift

you will also need to have the valve guide boss cut or use the offset lock and retainers they make for lifts over .460 on the vortec heads...it has been discussed in detail search...

go with what ever the cheaper connecting rod is i think it will be the scat I beam p/n# 25700P for press fit 25700 for floating the 25700 are clearanced for the stroker as long as they are the floating style wrist pin

Re: engine build questions

i used the 906's on a 305 and a performer rpm intake and 750 holley and the cam was a lunati 54761LUN. ran the engine for years no problems. my car ran 8.01 and 8.02 in the 1/8th all day long. since your going to a 350 you should see at leats 400hp. just a guess.

the vortecs already have 1.94's in them. i used stock springs lifters and spider. i ran that cam on a stock 305 head for the longest time with the TBI unit. it did not like the TBI.

most of the stroker kits are the same price for the 1 piece rear main blocks. i got eagle crank and rods ,srp pistons, total seal rings all bearings. flywheel and balancer to my front door for 1206.00. that was from CNCmotorsports.com.

Re: engine build questions

The eagle rods are probably over kill... SCAT is also probably cheaper too for rods if not going stock rebuilt with ARP bolts

Re: engine build questions

alright thanks guys. Ill stick with the 1.5 rr's, the Scat rods, and a cam that peaks at maybe a hair over .500" of lift. I'm also going to be tuning this my self w/ an autoprom. As for the stroker, I havent decided yet. I would guess that gas mileage would be similar with a 350 vs a 383 if they were both tuned for it, but what do you guys think?

Re: engine build questions

well they will be comparable depending on what cam your run but a 350 and a 383 with the same cam, 383 will use a little more gas

Re: engine build questions

If I did stick with the LPE 74211 which is 211@.050int and 219@.050exh and like .496"/.525" w/ 1.5s, what kind of power would I make and how ould that compliment a stealth ram?

Re: engine build questions

with a stroker or 350?

i am betting around 350-360HP with a 350

and about 370-380 with a stroker
