Oil filter part #s

The one and only time I've changed the oil in my RS (had it less than a year, put 3k on it), I put 5 qts in with a short-style oil filter, and when I checked it a couple weeks later the level was well over full. I imagine using a short-style filter had something to do with this? Does anyone have a part # for a long-style one? Any recommendations? I've always used Purolator PureOnes on my cars, but I don't know what the long-style part # would be for a 305 TBI, and Adavanced Auto's book doesn't list one.

Thanks to anyone who can help...

Re: Oil filter part #s

I use the WIX brand, #51794 which I get at O'Reilly's. It is a long filter, so you may want to make sure you have the proper ground clearance -- it would be horrible if you didn't have proper clearance and it hung down too low and hit something. Imagine all the issues that could occur from that!!

Good Luck,

Pat

The filter is approximately 8 inches long.

Re: Oil filter part #s

I use a AC Delco 1218, which seems to be on the larger side compared to most of the filters available for our cars.

Re: Oil filter part #s

I use NAPA silver which is made by Wix. #21069. It's a pretty large filter. IIRC it's the same size as the AC Delco 1218.

Re: Oil filter part #s

The Wix Filter (the 8" one) will fit on the camaro's. It is for the chevy trucks I believe, but they have worked very well for me. I like the extra filtering capacity!

As far as recommending a shorter length or a longer length filter, I'm sure there will be a lot of opinions on it. Like I was saying earlier, I like the extra filtering capacity and that is why I choose that filter. I'm sure the others filter just fine if not as well as the one I chose.

Thanks,

Pat
