which cam to pick???
okay heres the scoop. i got 406ci with sportman2 heads.hooker 1.75 long tube headers, about 9:7 to 1 comp. a edelbrock dual plane manifold with a holley 750 double pumper. turbo 350 trans/with a tci 3,000-2500 stall converter and 4:10 gears. right now i got a comp magnum .501 lift and 292 duration camshaft. at the drags its real sluggish off the line, but runs 12.60 @111mph at the drags with 1.90s 60's. i want to change to another cam to get off the line better and take advantage of torque of the long stroke. there are two cams i looking at right now but don't know which one to buy. also i don't plan on getting a hydraulic roller , just to let you know . any help is appreciated.
cams i'm looking at right now to buy, but whick one???
Lunati Voodoo 227/233 duration .489/.504 lift
or
Lunati Voodoo 233/241 duration .504/.525 lift

Re: which cam to pick???
The first one I had briefly. It's pretty small, it'd give you GOBS of torque in a 406, but it'd be a little tame I think.
The second one would be a good choice, that's the 60104 right? That should work great.

Out of those 2 i would go with the voodoo 274 (second cam), should run good in the 406. I put in the voodoo 268 (first cam) in my 383 and i wish i would have went one size bigger. Regardless im excited to start it up next weekend for the first time!

i think whats hurting you off the line is the converter and intake. you need to be more in the power range when you take off. making a cam change won't do any good untill you get the most out of the cam you have.

Re: which cam to pick???
okay now that voodoo 233/241 duration with .504/.525 lift cam. should i be worried about pistion to valve clearance. i have speed pro flat top forged pistion with the 4 valve reliefs. also i understand by changing my converter and going to a single plane would make my car run better , but i shift at about 5500rpm and its a street/strip car. i would rather take advantage of the torque produce by the long stroke. but thanks anyways.

No, you shouldn't have to worry about piston to valve clearance. I'd check it anyway though. Just rotate the motor over by hand a few rotations before firing it up.
