Is this a decent sbc head?

Hi, I was curious if anyone had any experience with these heads or if anyone knows if these are good performing heads? I have a set of vortec 906 castings that I will put on or if these are good, I'll buy these.

Thanks for all thoughts, opinion, and advice!

Pat

Re: Is this a decent sbc head?

they are suposed to be terrific . I talked with a guy on the phone from their . He siad they gained 40 hp over another head ( wouldn't say the name...but he was hinting at AFR) in some crazy sbc build up they did.

But this is just hearsay .... so take it as you will. i think they are still a bit new and , nobody around here has really gotten a good look at them

Those are the same set of heads I'm looking at.

But I agree they are Patriots new product and not many people have them, so they are a bit unknown.

but taking the companys history into consideration their other heads are fantastic.

The only thing that would really bother me is that i couldnt find any lift specs below .400 lift. Peak flow is really only part of the picture. You need excellent flow at lower lift also, as you will spend more time at partial lift than at full lift. I would ask for a full flow chart before buying, if it were me.

Re: Is this a decent sbc head?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I really appreciate it. I will definitely check into the lower lift specs and see if I can get that info from them. If so, I will post here when I receive it.

If I also end up purchasing these heads, I will post again and let you all know my experience with them.

Thanks,

Pat

Intake
Lift 2.02 intake 1.60 exhaust
.100 70 58
.200 140 105
.300 193 144
.400 230 176
.500 259 190
.550 265 195
.600 270 201
.650 272 206
.700 273 211

Here is the flow chart patriot performance sent me on the new Freedom 195 cc heads.
I am in the process of changing from GMPP vortec 170cc heads to these. My old setup pushed around 330rwhp, so we will see what these new heads do.

You sure about that. A few months ago when I was looking, I found quite the opposite when searching all around trying to find info on Patriot heads. I also found nobody anywhere who has used these heads, nor did I find anyone who had even bought a set, when I searched back through all their Ebay feedback...The only positive info I found was their own redundant claims on their Ebay ads...I know the local LS1 guys say the Patriot stuff is garbage, and from what I found out about late model Fords, they also had dependability issues...

Re: Is this a decent sbc head?

Patriot heads are junk. They copy the good features of other heads and combine them into one. The good exh. port from one, the intake from another, chambers from another etc. When they get combined, they don't work so hot anymore. I had a customer supply a set of their heads a while ago that had an LS1. I did the heads/cam setup. It lasted about a month and the seats fell out. Another local guy had the valves lock up in the guides. The ones that I've had on the bench didn't flow so hot. Valve angles were totally screwed and a little work on the valve job freed up an extra 20 cfm. Maybe they've gotten better, but I doubt it. People buy them becuase they're cheap and don't understand the difference between them and a good set of heads.

Re: Is this a decent sbc head?

I am gonna have to agree with DialedIn on this one, I am sending my Patriot heads back tomorrow. After closer examination these heads are junk. The intake ports did line up and what they call CNC ported looked like a sloppy job done by hand and two of the valve guides were not all the way seated. A local guy gave me a great deal on some slightly used GMPP small port vortec bow tie heads and we put them on today. WOW what a difference these made, atleast on the butt dyno I would have to say 30-40 more hp than the standard GMPP vortec heads I was running. After some more PROM tuning it's only gonna get better.
