Weiand X-Celerator

More than likely a stupid question but just wondering. Would the Weiand X-Celerator single plane act more like a dual plane with the divder plate in it? It lists its rpm range as 1,500-6,000. Same as Edel Performer Rpm Air Gap. So would it act about the same or no?

Re: Weiand X-Celerator

No it won't. A single plane manifold is ,a single plane manifold. Adding the divider will help the lower mid range power some. it will still be and act like a single plane manifold. It will never be as strong in the low and mid range as a dual plane manifold is.

Consider a single plane manifold to be a 3000rpm up manifold where you can afford to give up some torque for some extended top end power and rpm. 6000+.

Single plane manifolds like bigger cams, better flowing heads, higher stall 3000++converters and high rear end gearing. 3.73++
Adding a divider just enhances the low end of its normal operating range and can enhance throttle response.
A dual plane will still have a stronger low and midrange power and cruise nicer at part throttle overall.

Re: Weiand X-Celerator

Advertised RPM ranges can't really be compared, since they're not really based in reality. Dividing a single plane doesn't give quite the same performance as a dual plane because of the way the firing order is divided. A Chevy's firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The dual plane will divide this so that 1, 4, 6, 7 are fed from one side, and 8, 3, 5, 2 from the other. Putting a divider down the single plane separates them into odd and even cylinder numbers. This has 4 drawing its intake charge right after 8 has depleted the plenum, and similarly with 5 and 7.

Re: Weiand X-Celerator

Just thought I'd throw in a testimonial on the X-Celerator. I've been running the #7546 w/o divider plate on my 69 Camaro for almost 20 years now, and love it. In fact, mine's so old it doesn't even have the notches in the plenum for the divider. I've always heard the dual planes are better for the street, but I've always been so happy with the X-Celerator, I've never seen any reason to change. I'm definitely not lacking any low end torque either! I can fry the tires for an entire block when I want to. Of course I'm running 3.73's in the rear, a 4 speed manual, healthy cam, headers, dual exhaust, and a 650 double pumper. If you've got the right engine/drivetrain combo, this intake works fantastic. It really starts to kick in around 2000 rpm, and pulls nice and strong all the way to 6000 rpm. Even at 6000, it's probably more the cam and carb that start to run out, and not the intake. I've never been impressed with the looks of the low-riser #7547. If you're going to buy one, go with the 7546. I've often debated buying a newer one with the divider plate just to see if it'd act any differently, but it's so easy to light up the tires as it is now, I figure what's the point?

Nice. Who makes the tallest dual-plane intake? I get what your saying Apeiron didn't think about that, duh.
