How to choose cam?
I have a 92 camaro rs that I put a 385 in. I have iron heads with 1.94 and 1.5 rockers that I plan on putting 1.6 in.I have a holley 750cc carb. It didnt come with a posi so Im putting a posi with 3.42 gears along with a 3000 tci stall. I also have hedman 1 5/8 hedders. I also have msd ignition. Im not famailiar with building an engine as my father in law didnt because he want somethinh reliable with decent gas mileage. Well once I got it back i was not happy that is why i am add the 1.6 rockers,3.42 with posi , 3000 stall. amonst all poly bushings, lca, torque arm. If I was to add a cam what suggestions are out there?
I might have asked this before but have forgotten, sorrry!

best thing to do is to call up comp cams and they will design a cam that is best suited for u and ur setup.

What head castings are on it?
If you want some camshaft basic info, check the sig.

I dont have the car with me just know they were new afr iron heads 1.94 1.50 . The boxes are at the inlaws house.I read that thanks, I think I screwed myself because of the low gears and the high stall at this moment.

AFR iron? With 1.94/1.5" valves?

As far as I know, AFR only makes aluminum heads, and never used 1.94/1.5" valves. That's a stock valve configuration.
I'd save your money on the 1.6 rockers. Try to find the bottleneck of power, and eliminate that first. The 1.6 rockers probably won't be a good way to spend your cash at this point.

I believe i got the heads as a combo deal built fromt competition prodructs. My father in law has some 1.6 sittin around that I can just swap outg. I know whe n went went into this I was limitied on money and we just wanted to get in but he said with this camshaft I would have gas mileage and atleast some power. Well there is no i mean no gas mileage so i mind as well for a little more.

The best way to choose the proper cam, is to build the rest of the engine, keeping in mind the actual purpose of the engine (driver, street/strip, race, tow truck?) and choosing the cam LAST.
Pick your base to start from... 305, 350, 383, etc... then choose heads that will give you the performance you are looking for. Then choose a set of pistons that will give you the compression ratio you want. Pick an intake manifold and carb to match the intended use of the engine. Once all of that is done and set in stone, THEN you choose a cam to match up to everything else you just bought/built.

The p;roblem is the engine is already built. My problem is the heads and cam but dont have the money for both. Can I get the cam and then go for the heads later? Seeing as good heads are the most expensive. Guess Im answering my own question just like headers but not a cat back but would like some answer. Also my heads wear dart now that I think about it.

If you have to choose one to do first, do heads first. You are better off to do both at once, but between the two, do heads first.

you've got dart heads? They're probably ok to keep for now.
Comp xe268h is a good all around cam. Pretty hard to go wrong with it.
