In the hole

This was a new 88 caprice crate engine 4 bolt main from GM.Installed the Eld. rpm package.Drove for 20k miles.Installed 88TPI setup with accel 6.and a comp 256 cam.Drove 3k more.Pulled oil pan for oil leak.Found cyl 6 had a bent rod and 4 piston skirts with the ends broken.Installed speed pro trw H345np pistons, scat icr5700p rods, 77rod beaing and a comp xe268 cam. From the chart the pistions have a 1.540 compression distance with 5.70 rods It measured only .022 in the hole.Measured with a straight edge and feeler gage, all cyls.Even I can't be that far off. With stock pistions at 1.525 comp. dist. Should it be about .040? The engine is now assembled.

Thanks

Stupid me.Found an old e-mail with says these are 1.560 compression pistons he sent me.The chart only shows a H345NP with 1.540 comp. dist. This explanes why the measurement looked off. Also the comp dist of a standard pistion is 1.565 not 1.525 as i stated in the question. Sorry about that.

-.022 deck height is better than -.040. You'll have better quench and flame travel. Just be sure to check piston to head clearance.
