1982 Camaro Engine Wiring Harness
I have a 1989 Firebird I am using for parts-My son and I are rebuilding his 1982 Camaro. The wiring harness is a mess on the Camaro. the wiring harness on the Firebird is in excellent shape and we used everything from the Firebird except the engine. ie alternator, smog pump, power steering..
Can we swap the wiring harness from the Firebird to the Camaro without too much modification? How do I get it unplugged from the firewall? I've tried but am afraid of breaking it.
We are stuck here and must have advice on what to do. Couldn't believe I found this fantastic group of Camaro/Firebird folks. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for either or both of the 82 Camaro/89 Firebird you could email me? Or maybe where I could get it on the web?

Yes, people around here are very helpful. I did my '86 donor into '82 driver swap in the summer of 1999 - note my "Join Date". I went through a lot of things I didn't have to had I known about this site.
There is a bolt in the middle of the connector that holds the engine compartment side onto the firewall side of the harness. It isn't that big of a deal to disconnect. It will be full of tar-like gunk, otherwise it's pretty simple.
I can't verify it, but I've heard that part of the harness was pinned the same throughout the model years. I know that was the case with my two model years, even though the ECM harness that passes through the passenger kick panel was completely different between the years, as was the dash-to-rear-chassis connectors.
The Haynes shop manual I have has a good schematic of the '82 harness. I got a copy of the '86 schematic from the library off of microfiche. For the official factory manuals, go to www.helminc.com . It ain't cheap ($157 for the Firebird manual w/supplements), but they are good.

five7kid thanks for the info.......dude.....I was almost cutting the wires when I got your reply. Can you tell me how the clip is to be undone in the fenderwell going in to the kickpanel/dash? I see two clips on the sides of the plug and something in the center but I can figure out how to get it unplugged without breaking the plug......thanks a million
