Distributor gear ?
Well some of you may remember my last thread
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...e-problem.html
Well I used that as a bad excuse to buy a Pro Billet distributor so I got my 8366 in the mail today and went to pull the old dizzy out of the car only to find most of the distributor gear missing the new one from msd has this
MSD Iron Distributor Gears: MSD-8531 - summitracing.com
Iron gear on it (although the msd tech on the phone told me it had a ?melonized? gear and it should work) so I checked my gmpp catalog (car has hot cam) and it says to use a melonized gear with there crate engines it says nothing about what gear to use with hotcam
does anybody know if this will work or what the deal is here cause all I have been able to get out of like 5 different places I have called is run-around
Thanks
AL

I dont see any problem with it not working but I dont want it to get eaten like the last one did mainly for 2 reasons
1 Pain in the *** to replace dizzy gear every season. The old one was fine when I put it into my new engine at the beginning of the season it hasent been in there for any more than 2000 miles and its completely slagged
2 I dont like metal shavings or chunks floating around in my oil
If anybody could just tell me itll last Ill throw it in there but if its not gonna last I have to look into a different gear

the melonized gear is for runing on a billet/steel cam. It should work just fine on your cam. GM makes a melonized gear. I did not no msd had one!

Bunch of people running the LT4 hot cam on stock distributor gears, I seriously doubt its a solid billet core that you need a bronze dist gear for.
Change intakes or deck height when you went to this 'new' motor? Might have a alignment problem of the dist gear to cam gear.
