Saginaw P-series PS Pump?

I have an 89 Formula and I'm gonna be replacing the PS resevior with a polished or chrome version, but I seem to be getting conflicting information. These pics represent what I appear to have on my car:

(thanks to roughskinjrz)

I have found an actual pump on summit which would fit my car (for reference only) AGR High Performance Power Steering Pumps: AGR-807324 - summitracing.com
What I can't understand is why, according to Summit, this piece Summit GM Saginaw Power Steering Pumps: SUM-340103 - summitracing.com
would not fit in my car as they are both P-series PS parts.

What am I missing? My Chilton manual shows that style of pump for the V6 and the LT1 got something with a resevoir on the top of the engine. Could I use that 340103 piece with the corresponding keyway pulley? Makes sense to me but I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about.

The P series pumps from 1980 & up all have the same bolt pattern, although flow and pressure rates vary somewhat. You would be able to use that pump with your stock reservoir and you would be fine, What changes are the reservoirs. The location where the mounting holes are drilled alters how the pump is oriented in the bracket. That, plus the direction the return tube faces will dictate whether a specific reservoir / pump combination will fit your car.

Your post makes sense to me, but after reading yours, mine made less sense. I guess what I need to know is if there's a polished or chrome RESERVOIR I can get? I didn't know that about the line configuration Ed. Do they even make shiney reservoirs for our cars?

I've found a March piece but it's $189. Has anyone found a Saginaw P-series reservoir or an 89 car? If not, I'd hate to do it, but painting may be an option. I'm lost here, parts are few and far between.

EDIT: Well nevermind. I found it. Tuff Stuff has direct replacement units in chrome or black. Happiness like this is usually followed by some heavy breathing and a wipe of the brow.

Eric
