edelbrock 60cc performer vs vortec heads??

Well i am in the market for speed now. I need some better heads for the 350. Ive been looking at the vortec irons with the tpi manifold , but am wondering if the aluminum edelbrock performer 60cc heads with 2.02 and 1.6 valves would be better.

what do you think

You mean 160cc , or 60cc chambers?

Do you have flow rates for both?
What is the cost of either?

For the TPI app, I think you'd want better burn characteristics, and better low lift flow = vortecs. But I don't know the specs on the other head so...

performer heads absolutely suck from a performance standpoint, the performer RPMs aren't that bad but for the price vortecs are really hard to beat.

Performer heads are just replicas of the Corvette aluminum heads, with the Edelbrock logo on them. You can buy 113 casting Corvette heads for alot less money and get exactly the same improvement.

Look at heads from AFR, Dart, or TrickFlow... they are MUCH better heads, and are all in roughly the same price range. If you want that TPI to take its ***** out of its purse, get a set of 180cc AFR heads with 68cc chambers, L98 angle plugs, and CNC port job

Vortecs don't just require a different intake but also an external EGR system on a TPI (unless you delete EGR in the chip programming). You may or may not be into that much work for a head swap.

The Performer heads aren't all that bad. I have a friend who runs mid/low 12s with them on a carbureted 350 in a pig-heavy 69 Chevelle- a fairly aggressive combo but nothing really special about it. Lots of people don't give much credit to these heads but I do- they always seem to exceed expectations of frieds who have used them (although I have not used them myself on any of my motors).

The Performer RPM head is only slightly different than the standard Performer head- the specs are almost identical, as are the flows. The main difference is the RPM head does not have an exhaust crossover passage where the standard Performer head does (so your EGR system will work).

The standard version is also available in "centerbolt valve cover" style with the 2 center intake bolts "stood up" at a slight angle just like factory 87-up cast iron heads. And, of course, you can bolt your centerbolt valve covers right on top of them. The RPMs don't have this option.

Neither one is much like a factory L-98 aluminum head. Your intake won't bolt to them without modification and they don't have exhaust crossover ports so your EGR system won't work either.

I like Edelbrock stuff becuase it usually fits and does what they say it will do. Of all the stuff out there it seems to be engineered most like how the factory does things. Making sure things fit and there's proper clearance for typical stock parts is usually pretty well thought out with Edlebrock stuff.

I've heard the Dart Iron Eagle heads and the World Sportsman II heads are real nice heads if you have them ported.

Thanks for the input guys. I like the vortec head/ intake combo but was wondering if it would be better to keep the same baseplate and spend the same amount of money on a set of heads that didnt require a new baseplate
