Piston/Rod assembly questions
I am rebuilding my ZZ4 block. I removed my old pistons and rods from the block and totally forgot to mark the piston numbers and positions in the block. I am in the process of installing new standard bore SRP forged dished pistons and Eagle forged h-beam 5.7 rods. My question is, when installing the new piston/rod assembly back into the block and crank, does it matter which way the rod bearing locks face when going onto the crank? For instance do the locks have to face one way for the 1-3-5-7 side as opposed to the 2-4-6-8 side? The directions that came in the package don't say anything about correct positioning of the rods in the block. As far as the piston goes, I know that the flat top side (non-dished side) of the piston should face the center of the block when referenced to the cylinder heads. I've assemble 4 of the pistons to the rods but stopped there to make sure which way the other 4 should go. I hope the pictures help you understand what I'm talking about. TIA

hope these pictures will help........note the piston is turned around when the "Eagle" stamp is not seen. Also note the position of the bearing locks.

Right, bearing tangs away from the cam, or toward the oil pan.
All 8 rods and all 8 pistons are supposed to be the same. Now I'm not going to make you any promises about yours, just telling you they're "supposed to" be. Then, 4 pistons should be hung on their rods in one orientation (odd cyls, left bank), and 4 the other way (even cyls, right bank). Lefts/odds should be assembled such that if you look at the piston from the front, the bearing tangs are toward the right; and rights/evens of course with bearing tangs toward the left.

I've got another question. I've got all of the pistons and rods assembled correctly now. Eagle sent me 32 spiro locks for the pins. I only used 16 of them. Do I have to double up on the locks?
