Mass Air Flow or EGR valve????????
Recently just started having problems with my 88' 305 iroc-Z. Was running fine until i filled it with a full tank of gas the other day then started to crap out. (used 85). Pulled up some codes off of the engine and got two MAF codes but also got 2 EGR valve codes? Alot of people have told me that the EGR replacement will help with the MAF but not sure. Dont get the EGR until this thursday any suggestions on what i can do>?

Car: 88 Firebird
Engine: 5.0 ltr
Transmission: 4L60
Axle/Gears: 10bolt 3.23's I think
when is it running rough.. just at idle or all the time.. egr will effect idle mostly but will have little effect when running at highway speeds.. maf will have effect on the whole range.. you can try to tap the maf ( tap ) with the handle of a screwdriver.. if idle changes you have you problem...

Trace all of your vacuum and small vacuum lines (small are by the EGR Valve) and make sure they are all *snug* and not corroded -- take it off and put it back on. I had a similar experience where the car would die constantly, run funny, and have weird problems and i smelled something weird too.
Guess what it was?
It was a rubber connector to the end of a small vacuum line -- it was a 50 cents repair!
So, take the end off of something, check it for clog, put it back on.
Or if you want to be thorough... get a can of air, take a tube off and spray the air through -- if it goes through, good... if not, well you found a problem.

Car: 1989 Camaro
Engine: 350 but it's torn down right now.
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: I'm working on it,lol.
Why don't you try some octane boost and see if that helps. Your motor might not like cheap old 85 in the hot and humid summertime.
