how do i set timing on vac/mechanical dizzy
Can give me a quick run thru on how to tweak the vacuum and mechanical advance on my distributor..or should it be close out of the box?
After I set base, what do I check (set?) first...
At what RPM should I check the advance?
I know how to set up the timing light and check timing and adjust the base..its just the advance part ive never had to do before.

check the main page on TGO, I think Damon wrote a tech article on it.
You want ~36* at max mechanical advance. Disconnect your vacuum advance, plug it on the carb, and hold your timing light, and rev it until the mechanical advance maxes out. You'll have to use lighter springs then a stock distributor (i'm guessing that's what you've got), or else your advance will come in way too late. So if you show 26*, bump it up to 36*. Then check your idle advance. It'll be higher then stock, so be it. You can back out your idle screw to regain your idle speed.
Vacuum advance can be replugged in now, for ported vacuum. Read the tech article, it gives way more info.
