Rough idle

Hi guys,

I bought an 88 iroc 5.7L tpi, when I start it up it idles rough for about 30 seconds then it idles fine. Also sometimes when I drive, it it cuts out for a second like it isn't getting fuel so I ran injector cleaner through it but still didn't help. I don't know it is a dirty fuel filter, dirty injectors, or something else. I imagine it has to be fuel... The car sat for the last year and only had 500 miles put on it. I've been driving it to get the bugs worked out. Any suggestions? Thanks

Start off with a complete tune-up; plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, etc. If it sat for a year, there's prolly water in the gas from condensation, so fill it up. I'd also check out the map/maf sensor (whichever you've got, I'm more of a carb guy). Did you know the person you bought it from very well? Ask them what problems it had and how long ago they started.

Also, IMO, the injector cleaners may be good for maintenance, but to really actually clean the crap out, have somewhere hook up a bottle of this stuff that will really do the job. I don't know exactly what it is, but I took my Grand Prix in, and the crap that came out the tailpipe was outright disgusting, but bumped the MPG to about 32...on a 1992 w/190000+ miles on it. With just changing the O2 sensor it was only pulling 25

I ran two tanks of 93 through it, did the tune up and I am replacing the fuel filter today. Thanks for your help!

yo roc, my Iroc did the same thing at first, your engine might be a little carbed up from sittin, also for my car, if i let it run for a few minutes before i drive it, it dosent cut out, and the timing might be off a little.
