Budget connecting rods?

Looking for some rods that will hold up to ~400hp without a sweat, preferably forged (since the rest of my motor will be forged). I don't want to run into any problems at 6000rpm. Also, what would you recommend for bearings?

I was thinking the GMPP 4740 I-Beam Rods were a good idea, but I bet there's something better.

i'd do an eagle rod, an h beam if this is a stroker application b/c they clear the cam and you don't have to do much to the pan rail as far as clearance goes..if it's just a 350 i'd do the i beam,

either way clevite h bearings

Stock rods are all forged (and have been since the SBC was invented). Good rod bolts (I prefer ARP WaveLocs) and proper maching will go WAY pasty 400HP. I push them beyond 500 before I even give them a second thought.

I second that.... use stock rods, and upgrade the bolts. GM steel rods are plenty tough.

Reconditioned Gm PM rods with ARP bolts. When the ARP bolts are installed they have to resize them. Good to over 500hp.

If you can easily find a good trusted set of GM "pink" rods then use them... if not look into the Eagle SIR rods. They are rated at 500HP and cost like $260.

not sure if I gave you this advice before, but ohio crankshaft has 4140 rods with arp 6 point bolts in them for $159 or so. Think of it as better than a stock rod, reconditioned, with ARP bolts, all for the price of reconditioning your rods.

I like bimetal bearings, summits line has them, cheap.... (This sounds familiar, I may have already given you this advice....)

haha, yea, I know that nova, i'm just passing on the love now

I got a set, and it was cheaper than reconditioning my factory rods here, and that's including shipping to canada and duty. Hard to beat that!

factory LT1 rods are equal to, or better than many of the "performance" rods on eth market, even the much touted GM "Pink" rods. Many people are using them in 383 and 396 LT1 strokers making over 500 HP.
