finding TDC, stupid question im sure, but anyways, with the valve cover off on #1, should the dizzy be stabbed when the intake valve closes? or right before the exhaust valve opens? or in between? thanks

Umm... I typically start corner to corner with the piston at TDC so I'm close, I don't go by the valves for anything but figuring which stroke I'm on. I'm sure there are going to be a slew of methods mentioned.

When you look at it I have the leading corner of the rotor just into the facing corner of the post.
rotor ---------

If that comes out it'll be a really crappy visual, but should make more sense than me trying to explain it.

You,ll be close if you go by the intake valve closing, which is all you need until the engine starts up then you can set the timing to specifications. If the piston is at compression stroke TDC the dizzy rotor should be just about to break contact with the post.
