383 Cam choice?Need your ideas
85 camaro, 383, gen 1 engine. Holley Street Avenger carb 670. probably stock heads (iron, nothing fancy for sure), 1.6 RR, hydraulic flat tappet lifters, rear gear 3.5ish, slightly higher than stock Torque Convertor, automatic transmission (4L60).
Due to my usual bad luck with engines, i have an 'opportunity' to replace the cam and lifters...
Goals: Good low end performance, ie, acceleration, 1500-4500 rpms, good highway milage secondary issue, decent idle, not too lopey.
Prefer comp cams.
any suggestions?

xe268. That is 1800-5800 or so in a 350, translates to ~1400-5500 say. I think you'd like it a lot.

i will definately check that out. it seems familiar, like maybe I use it in my vette, but it has hydraulic rollers too, and a superram. but that is good info, i like the rpm range.

If you ask for a Camshaft recomendation on this board, you'll get the same answer 98% of the time.... Comp XE 268.
I'd go a little milder with the Comp XE262 (#12-238-2) or the Dual energy 265DEH (#12-208-2)
"Goals: Good low end performance, ie, acceleration, 1500-4500 rpms, good highway milage secondary issue, decent idle, not too lopey." Both these cams fit your goals.
