1988 Iroc blues= code 42
Hiya every1 , i just purchased a 1988 iroc-z with 5.0 TPI (MT)
The thing is when i opened the hood i noticed 2 fan connectors pulled from relays (black boxes) and in the plug i noticed they had jumpered them both using an inline fused wire, why? .. i dont know i yanked thw wires out and put tham back where they were supposed to go and everything seemed fine (in the temp and fan working reguard). My big dilehma is i keep getting code 42 and the car runs like garbage very rich almost seems like its missing and out of time. BTW this problem WAS intermitant. sometimes drive great for week even with no problem.. but now the SES light is on all the time. and this is what ive done so far to correct the problem , changed Ignition module, plugs / wires, rotor / cap - ran it on diagnostics machine and said T.PS. was working properly and adjusted, computer had been changed as well, checked all grounds reset ECM and still getting code 42 .. cars hard to start after warm up .. have to give it WOT to get her to fire .. leaving this afternoon to grab new ECM any ideas on this elusive rascal are greatly appreciated
oh also checked knock sensor .. no probs there either. Was told that next things to be replaced were coolant sensor IAC motor and pickup coil, none of these are real expensive i know but if someones had a similar prob maybe can save me a little time =) ty again.

From what I found in the FAQ section ( https://www.thirdgen.org/faq ), code 42 could mean one of three things. Fault at electronic spark timing circuit OR Fault at direct ignition system OR Fault at fuel cutoff relay circuit. Hope this helps.
