What valve covers for my TPI motor?
We have a 92 Firebird that we swapped in an 87 TPI into, but the valve covers are very rough looking. Theyare some cheap chrome ones that look like crap. We are running the Crane 1.6 roller tip rockers and they hit the baffles, so we removed them. They work for now, but look absolutely terrible. I want to replace them with some new ones, but I want to get some that I can just prep, powdercoat red, and throw on the motor.
We're going to be installing a Holley Stealth Ram on it and it has a BMR 3-pt STB on it now. I needsomething that works with all of these.
I'd prefer a smooth cover, too.
Anyone know of which set I should buy that will work with my setup without any cutting, hacking, or bloodshed?

Proform makes some already powder coated red I believe and they are taller with no baffles. Check out Jegs/Sumitt to see if those are something youd be interested in. I have the black wrinkle finish with red lettered ones...sit a bit taller and look nice...no baffles.

So the taller valve covers will work? I'll check Summit for them, see what I can dig up.
I'm not sure which color to go with, I have a powdercoating setup in my garage, so I'll probably just go with the chrome ones and coat them whatever appeals to me once the HSR is on it.

I'm going to be running a set of comp 1100 series roller rockers, so I'm in the market for some taller valvecovers as well. I had these in mind:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
They are black, plain, but still sharp looking, just what I was looking for. They also have a PCV provision which many of the others didn't have. My only issue is clearance, I heard some tall valve covers won't clear the alternator.

Are you using the 87 Belt set up? If you are using the a 92 alternator location you may have some issues with tall covers hitting the post on the back of the alternator.

Well......I ordered them already so I guess I'll have to see if I can grind down the back of the alternator. Damn, I figured something like this would come up that is why I hesitated

Try them first. Creepingdeath didn't mention any problems. I had old style heads on my motor so the covers were slightly different. Update this post when you get them. I want to know if they clear that post. I might buy a set myself.

Definitely please update when you get them. I have the 92 belt setup on my motor. I'd hate to have that sucker hit the alternator post!

Dart Tall Covers DO hit the alternator post. I had to shorten the post and use a thinner nut on the back of my alternator. I have Dart Iron Eagle heads and Dart Tall aluminum valve covers (ordered from Summit). You will have to do some sort of modification if you plan on using 91-92 alternators and tall covers.
