Advice Needed - Transmission Business

Greetings... Anyone knowledgeable about the transmission repair business?

I have the opportunity to purchase a profitable transmission repair franchise (the franchisor is the leader in that industry) It also does some general automotive repair work. Right now, it's a good investment.

My question, what is the future of automotive repair and related businesses?

Another way to phrase it: How viable is entering this type business in the current climate and with the automobile industry in a state of flux?

I'm primarily concerned about what the new technologies (hybrids, etc) will do to this industry. And what happens when gas shoots to 7 bucks a gallon (or whatever) when we confront Iran.

I have a lot riding on this (mainly 4 kids!) so I would be forever grateful for any advice.
Thanks a million!

With the sheer number of automatic transmissions on the road right now (86% of all cars in the USA are automatic I think I read somewhere), provided that something doesn't happen to cut off the gas supply completely, we are so totally dependent on our cars that I would consider such a deal.

Problem with that business is that Americans are so lax about transmissions, they never think about them, they never do anything to them, and when they break they go buy a new car.

One thing I'd think about is how well versed are the workers at newer model transmissions. Is there going to be a need to train on new techs (like all electronic valve bodies, those newer "manual when you want them to be" types), etc.

I have a feeling that you could put all your kids through college on such a business.

Of course $7 gas changes everything....

get a business manager. this is a third gen f-body web site. although there might be a few people with business degrees at this site that is not why we are here.

Maybe if you buy the shop some of the members will come and patronize your establishment.

Are you sure you are posting at the right site and if you do find a site that can anailize business decisions and make you rich let me know!
