or #2 sorry for all the posts I don't know how to post multiple pictures in one posting. Also would not having the gasket installed cause low oil pressure?

It probably doesn't really matter, since the valve disc is just a pressure relief/bypass, but I've seen most of them installed as pictured in the first photo.
Second question? No gasket. I just went through this myself, and was reminded that the adapter has a raised ridge of material on the back side that does any sealing that is necessary. Anything that leaks through is small enough that it is effectively "filtered" anyway. I allowed myself to hunt for that gasket, too.
As for the third question (which you haven't asked yet), 18-20 ft/lb for the bolts.

ede,
I finally found the adapter gaskets in my stash of old parts, along with a few new/old oil pump cover gaskets. I still haven't found those venturi bearings, though.
Don't laugh too much. Brown & Sharpe oil pumps use paper gaskets on the ground surfaces. Go figure.

the one i got from summit has a flat side, it went towards the hole in the block. I dont see a flat side on yours so this probably does not help at all.
if the manual doesnt say, it probably doesnt matter.

For a factory/stock/GM oil filter adapter it doesn not matter which way you mount it. Once it pushes open the spring-loaded bypass valve the oil dumps into the same place (the middle) regadless of which side the bypass is on.

Re: How does the oil filter adapter go
Saw this post and its somethign I am doing this W/E with my new engine.
Can you re-use those adapters & Bolts these off an old engine (my stock 305) instead of buying a new one from the "general" for a new engine I put in?
