Trying to get engine off the stand and in the car!

Well my 355 build is going very painfully slow and funds are gone to he||...

So far i have really got nowhere on this build, just a comp xe268 cam and double roller chain (not bad for 6 months eh?)

Now that ive spent the next 6 years of my pay on a new sled its going to be touch and go on building up this motor decently.

I think ill end up throwing on my old edelbrock performer intake and 600cfm carb and try and get away with a set of my old heads. Ive got some 882's and some 416's, will either of these take a .48 lift "as is"?

I think now im just going to have an over cammed gutless fuel spewing beast, instead of a tire shredding fox body eating chunk of american steel

My honest advice,hold off,and gather parts.Last I knew,your car is running as is,right?
Good deals are available to those who don't have to have it RIGHT NOW.
Build it how you want it,kick back, save your dough for good heads, get an Air Gap RPM,etc. You know the drill.I've read several of your posts, you know how to make descent power, why not go ahead and do it,even if it takes a bit longer?
Just my 2cents.

I would like to hold off but theirs a few problems...

The motor in the car does run pretty well but it is getting tired and i dont think its going to last another summer.

I have a big chunk of cast iron sitting beside my desk at work i would like to get out of there before it falls over and smashes my computer or the $8000 bearing heater thats sitting beside it

And at the rate im going its going to be quite a while before i can save up the money to build this motor the way i originally planned to, unless i can find some kicka$$ deals but i doubt it.

So far i figure its at least another $4000ca away from being done. Thats with a set of AFR 195s which were $1800 for the pair + shipping.

do you already have the 350 bored to 355, and new pistons and rings, bearings etc?
what pistons are in it?

I'd just go hog wild with the 416s. Port the snot out of them. Open up the chambers if you need to lower your CR. You can buy that tool to shave down you valve guide, and use it with a drill if you dare.

I'll be done my 355 build before your winter ends there Almost the same too, lunati 60103, 416 heads, and a cheap 350 bottom end.
haha, I feel your pain, my funds just got cut short when my winter car burned out the timing belt last night. Now that's a fun job on a GM 3.4L DOHC motor.

It doesn't take that long once you've done it a few times. I can get it done in around 4 hours now.

oh yea? You in the neighborhood?
I just got started it today, and it's not so bad, compared to what i'm doing on my TA. Not an easy bit of preventative maintenance though...

84z, 10cc dished eh? I take it you're going with the 416 heads then eh? I'm chancing it with 5cc valve relief pistons here. Got your head porting started yet?

No porting yet, hopefully if i do port them i dont screw it up too bad

So depending on what kind of cash i get back from taxes (damn government!) im most likely going to blow it on a set of AFR 195s w/68cc chambers. Should be a good little combo for me and compression will be nice and high but definately 91oct friendly.
Mopac in Edmonton has the heads on the shelf right now for just under $1800.

pesos ok? It was snowing so hard tonight, and so windy that I couldn't get it done yet... ugh.

305ta paid me to fix his q-jet with a box of Bud. I hate beer. oh well, it was free.

84z, are you sure you don't want something cheaper, and have more of a chance getting it finished for the summer? I mean, i'd rather buy some slightly cheaper heads, then have it ready to drive for sure by june or so, rather then getting it perfect, but not finished until october or something... just a thought.

Well lets see, by june it will probably be almost time to park the sled and by october i will be pulling it back out again

Doesnt leave me much time to get the thing done

I think i would rather save up and blow the $1800 on a set of AFRs rather than buying a set of iron vortecs for $1000 and kicking myself in the *** for not saving up the other $800 and getting a set of crazy heads!
