help choosing the right cam and heads

I am thinking about getting a different cam and heads this summer on the car. Right now it has a 350 with 15k on the rebuild. The heads it currently has on it are ones off of the 305 and the cam is not stock. I do not know what kind it is, the reason for this is that i bought the car with it already installed, and rebuilt. The motor is going to have long tube headers, a 750cfm performer edelbrock carb, and has a performer intake. I want the car to be street driven but it is not a DD. I have a budget around 1300$ to be putting towards the heads and the cam. I dont really know if it would be better to have aluminum or iron casting. What kind of performance increase would this yield over the heads and cam that i am currently running?

Its hard to say what kind of gains youll see without knowing whats in the car right now. Get a degree wheel and find out the lift and duration of the current cam. I would definatly ditch the 305 heads. Theyll get you the high compression ration you may be looking for but they wont flow enuf air to get the powerband much above 5k rpm.

There should be a part number stamped on the cam, You can check that out to get the cam specs. As for the heads, for the price range you're looking at, I'd say you should get either, Twisted Wedge 23 degree, Holley Systemax, or Edelbrock heads, in that order. The main thing to be concerned about for a street motor is runner volume and mid-lift flow numbers. Ports in the neighborhood of 170-195cc will work best with a motor that will spend most of its times commuting on the streets of your local town. The smaller ports will also move air faster at low speeds, while boosting your low and mid-range torque. Both of which are highly desirable for a car that spends most of its time on the streetand only occasionally sees track duty.
