Carbed engine to spin to 8000-9000 rpm>>>

If you were going to take a 4 bolt chevy 350 to an 8000-9000 rpm redline, what parts would you need? This would be a 69 Camaro w/ a carbed engine for SERIOUS street/strip racing. Durability is an issue, as much as could be expected. I'm assuming all forged bottom end that is balanced, etc.
1) What heads would you use?
2) What type of manifold or intake system (single plane, tunnel ram, individual runner, dual quads, something else?)
3) What type of camshaft and about what duration and lift?
4) What carb and what size?
5) What gear ratio?
6) What manual tranny would you use?
7) Now the same questions if you were doing the same with a 427 BBC?
8) Finally, roughly what would the cost difference be between these 2 engines and the HP difference?
A lot of questions, but thanks to those who answer.

OK. Why do you want to spin it that fast anyway?

Any engine that has to spin higher than 6500 needs very light internal parts.

You've been reading too many magazines.

Take your $15k to a local racing engine builder and let him put a package together. Make that $20k for the big block for that extra 3 tenths in the quarter.

Then take your remaining $15k and prepare the car to take that power.

Then remove the word "durability" from your vocabulary.

Local guy here has an back halved '83 Monte Carlo with 454 'Glide that runs consistent 11.1's at our 5800' altitude on DOT tires (that's 10.2's corrected to sea level) all season long. I call that "serious".

He shifts at 6500 RPM's.

Get a motorcycle.

do to it with a big block...well I don't think 20k would even do it.

the only people that would run an 8000 to 9000 rpm engine are people that would know how to build them themselves and know what it takes to make it all work. i could answer the question but i don't think an engine that would cost 15 to 20 grand should be built by what you read online. i'm also assuming this is a what if conversation piece. yeah, a big block will go that high, a local guy with a destroked 396 which i believe is now in the 350 cubic inch area runs 8500 rpm plus but only turns high 11's. i've seen the boat engines test at the machine shop i go to on the dyno at 7800rpm for over a minute wide open. it can be done, but your looking at around 15k for a small block and 20k minimum for a 427 big block to achive even close to 8k. this isn't a forum question, but an engine shop question or cataloge. find the most expensive parts in there and figure twice that amount.

Yes, this is a "what if" conversation question. I never heard of anyone running over 7500 rpm on the street, except with those little 4 cylinder engines like my friend with a Celica that has a 9000 rpm redline. I know it wouldn't make a good street engine and that it would be expensive. I just want to see what it takes. Any more info.?

if you made motor to spin that high and make its power up there and back it up with the right gears that would be nice and fast prolly but you would be looking at a lot of work
you would have to get all of you valvetrain lighter as well as the pistons and crank. you will need to reinforce the mains. cam selection would be one hella thing to come up with.... you need to have the valve open up quick for that type of rpm but if you do that ten you risk valve float.

all in all you have a lot to worry about if you want to do that

if you are looking for a higher rpm range go with a 4cyl motor or a rotary

Got rotary?
running a turbo motor with 12psi.
full dual 3 1/2" pipes comming off the turbo
FMIC,CAI, ram air, e-fan,
soon to have ported intake,TB, and motor
best time 12.5 on G-tech
prev best time 14.8

hoping for 11.x soon :-)
but I broke another driveshaft...

and still running full street trim :-)
