Do the little mods, like K&N, homemade ram air, advance your timing. Do a tune-up if the car needs it. A cam change wouldn't be too costly, just a pain in the butt. When you get the money get some headers, the stock exhaust on these motors were horrible.

The best place to start would definatly be tuning your engine if you havn't already. Advance the timing, mess with the rod/hangers/AV tention in that carb. Those are basically free and can yield huge SOTP gains.

lol i was just kiddin around, i was gonna put one on my car but i couldnt find the main studs for it, it deflects the oil so it doesnt foam up when in high rpms, its meant for racing usually, but not a good idea unless u are planning on rebuilding the motor or putting a new one in, i would get mallory 8mm wires,oh wait i did lol, K&N air filter, accel plugs, new distributor, coil, module, if your car is carburated replace the stock carb, the intake
forgot to mention, take off your muffler and find an acetylene torch, and burn the packing out of the muffler, it makes it louder, sounding like it has more power lol, it might gain a few hps

Oh, and if it hasn't been mentioned already, punch out (or eliminate) your cat.

Automatic shift kits are cheap...and can be installed yourself...improves consistency and shift times. ANything that will let your car breathe...flipping the carburetor/air filter lid over to let more air in is one. Try and borrow a timing light if you don't have one and play with it. Not difficult and helps power quite a bit. Roller rockers can be installed yourself...and they aren't expensive. Full synthetic oil helps in my opinion. Cooler running engine via a thermostat or fans coming on manually helps keep engine cooler. A cooler engine usually makes more power.

i'd say start by installing a cooler thermostat and moving the ignition timing up. change the muffler with another bolt in it's place muffler. a big deal with the LG4 is the air cleaner. try and figure out a way to make your own cold air induction and also remove the butterfly in the air cleaner snorkle for the hot air tube and block off the bottom. a shift kit as mentioned is a great idea and will be very usefull as you start other modifications. you might also find some use in changing the secondary metering rods to a thinner set. well, just some thoughts.
