HV vs SV Oil Pumps
I ordered a standard pressure, high volume oil pump for my l98, and now after reading a few posts around I guess I should have went with a standard volume. It shouldnt sap all that much power though. Any idea if its a big difference?

I went with a Standard volume standard pressure on my 383. High Volume is if you have a bigger pan with more oil capasity. You dont want to run the pan dry.

standard pump is all 99% of the applications would ever require. weld the pick up, or buy the up graded pump wit hthe bolt on pick up. i like the mr gasket #26 spring as do alot of others here.

I like the HV with the #26 spring, but then again that is just me. Works well with the 5 quart truck pans that I use. An oil change is 7 quarts for me. 2 in the filter and 5 in the pan.

I think about thew only time extra volume is necessary is if there is oil needed for an accessory, like valve spring coolers or a turbocharger bearing. It really doesn't hurt, except to possibly hit the relief valve with more volume than normal.
