Thinking of Storing car in garage for one month

I'm considering storing my car in my garage for one month to save the insurance and gas money to put into the car. As of now, I'm only able to put about $50 a month into the car (I'm a high school kid so I don't make much money). I'm just wondering if I should so this or not (it would be during December). Also I'm wondering how this would affect my insurance, would I still have to pay the same yearly cost or would I just not have to pay the $150 a month I pay (Massachusetts). I'm also wondering what I would have to do to stire the car. I'm not sure (since it will only be a month) if I should remove all fluids and put the car up on jacks (which I will not be able to do anyway because I have no jacks and I think they're like $150 here). Any opinions greatly appreciated.

I know this is late but maybe it'll still help.

If you take it off the road you realize you have to turn in your plates, correct? Getting new plates, going through the hassle of insurance again, getting inspection, etc. is almost the price of insurance for a month. You wouldn't have to pay the $150 for the month, insurance is prorated daily (atleast my company is). If you can't afford the car then take it off the road, but if you needed it I guess you wouldn't be asking. If that's got a V8 then goodluck in the snow.

DON"T remove all the fluids. Doesn't make sense. Don't put it on jackSTANDS either (not jacks, jackstands which you get two for $20 at sears). It's only a month, the car won't just fall apart.

As far as what to do when you put the car away.... nothing. Theres no need... one month is nothing. Just park it and walk away.

Agreed. Your car probably sat longer on the GM lot before it was delivered. Here at work we have vehicles in our lot that have sat for almost a year before they made it down our assembly line.

drop your liability insurance and collision and just keep comprehensive. Here in ohio it doesn't mean a damn to the bmv if it's stored or not as long as the license is paid for. It'snot like you'll loose your plates, but I don't know how it is in your state. For a short time I had two fiero's I dropped my GT to comprehensive and the money I saved on insurance paid the insurance and car payment for the 87 SE fiero. If you're storing it inside I'd put a can over your exhaust pipes and cover up the air intake to keep the critters out

The comprehensive only is an excellent way to still keep the insurance with less "re-start-up" hassle associated with stopping, then forking up a typical 3 month premium to restart coverage.

My car literally sits idle from end of Oct to March, my storage ritual...drain fule out of carb and fill bowls with WD40 and work it through the carb passages so nothing varnishes up...done. If I had a bigger cam with higher valve spring pressures I'd also back off valves, but I'm not at that point so I dont make it any harder than it needs to be. Your' only sitting a month, dont sweat a thing. turn the car off and walk away.
