Performance of 3.42 rear axle IROC?

Hi all, newbie here.

Apologies if I post this in the wrong forum, or if the question's been asked a thousand times already, but this is a big message board and I didn't have much trawling time!

Anyhoo..... I have a 1986 Camaro IROC 305 auto with TPi, which I have just discovered has the performance rear axle (3.42 I believe).

While I know this means better acceleration, and less fuel economy I wondered if anyone could link me to accurate comparison figures of accelaration, top speed and fuel consumption between my car and the standard rear axle?

I here the standard axle does the dash to 60mph in about 7.3 ticks.

Thanks in advance!

i have done the swap from 2.77's (standard) to the 3.27s (high performance option) in my L98 and there is a noticeable difference

3.42's would be even quicker.

my 1/8 mile trap speed increased 3mph from 77 to 80
and the 1/4mile about 4mph overall. although my ET hasnt changed but traction is an issue. i'm sure with more practice i can get some better times out of it with the new gears

but from roll starts, it definately gets up more. gas mileage probly went down abit since my rpms are up more. i'd say about 500 more rpms at 60mph. 3.42's over the standard 2.73's would be up abit more, probly 800rpms more. i dont have my calculator here with me but when i get back from schoool,i'll get some better figures

Welcome and nice ride . No clue on your ? but I had the 342's and went to 373's and love it . The only real way of knowing is to pull the cover . Change the diff fluid and look cant hurt . (oil and gaskets are cheep ) You are probly due for a change anyway .

Thanks fellas.

Guess I'm gonna have to find out when I get it on the strip next summer.

Secretly hoping I can run the quarter in around 15 flat.
