What Cam/Lifters For My Setup??
hey, well i just put together a new motor, but the camshaft i have now is a little small ive been told by many for my setup. i was wondering if you can help me choose a new one.
i also run trick flow twisted wedge heads, so i think i have a max lift of .512 lift and 238 duration, any truth in this?
so my setup is
72 350 4 bolt main, steel crank, flat top pistons (was told something about the valve reliefs in them are for low compression???), trick flow twisted wedge heads 62cc 2.02/1.60, crane 10052 216 duration .454 lift cam (.486 with roller rockers), 1.6 comp cams pro magnum roller rockers, edelbrock rpm air gap intake, edelbrock 750cfm carb, weiand high flow aluminum water pump, march underdrive crank pulley, march water pump pulley, march power steering pump pulley, pro comp 7500RPM distributor, msd 8.5mm plug wires, small tube headers, 2 1/2" exhaust with flow master muffler and 3" tips, 410 gears with auburn posi, 700r4 soon to be t56.
can anyone tell me if my cam is too small? and maybe help with a new one?
also, what kind of horsepower do you think im running now? is it good enough for 12 seconds in the 1/4 mile? and how much more a new camshaft would work with my setup.

i have desktop dyno
i put in sb chevy 350 bore 4.030
cylinder heads trick flow twisted wedge 64cc, didnt bother changning 62cc, and 2.02/1.60 valves
i put compression only 9.00 since i was told the valve reliefs on the pistons lowered it some
induction = 750cfm
manifold type = dual plane manifold
exhaust = small tube headers with mufflers
camshaft type = stock street/economy
lifter = hydraulic flat tappet
cam specs @ .050 lift
int lift = .454
exh lift = .454
i have 1.6 RR's so i didnt put the lift up to .486 but it wont make a whole lot of difference.
btdc = 3
bbdc = 43
abdc = 33
evc = 7
i put all this in, and surprisingly i got 373HP @ 6000RPM and 387LBS TQ @ 4500
thats alot of power, is this even close to being accurate

Your max lift probably depends on your springs, but maybe the twisted wedges are special.

oh i brought the heads to a machine shop, i had to get a hole re-tapped, and said my springs are good for up to .600
i was thinking of the valve/piston hitting with flat top pistons because of the valves on an angle, thats why i questioned the lift

216* duration is a pretty tame cam... you could easily go with a cam quite a bit bigger than that. With flat tops and 62cc heads, you'll probably be around 10.5 CR, so you can go quite a bit bigger because of that.
I'd say go with something more like a Comp Cams XE274, which is around 230*/236* I/E. You'll make quite a bit more power that way.

this is a hydraulic cam also? can i use?
i was thinkin of 236/236 comp cams i forget the part number but it was .490/.490 and with 1.6 rr's would bring it to .522 lift
this is .487/.490 you just showed me that looks like a nice cam
