By that I mean when you turn the key, the car immediately fires up? Mine takes several revolutions before chugging to life. Is it a carb thing (750 Holley V/S), an ignition thing (Pertronix Ignitor II, Accel SuperCoil, stock wires, R45TS plugs) or voodoo?

In my experience it's just a matter of having the timing set right, and then getting the hang of exactly what it wants to start easy. My first Holley didn't like to have the gas pumped at all. The next one liked having it pumped once and then held open halfway to start right away. My Dominator likes it pumped twice and then opened up just as it starts to fire. But all of them, once I got the hang of them..fire right up.
Experiment a little..see what your carb/motor starts best with.

I dunno...my TBI never started as quickly as my Holleys...go figure
Actually I think the most frequent TBI cause it a bad fuel pump that doesn't maintain line pressure when the car is shut off..causing a delay in starting untill it builds back up. Thats just kind of a shot in the dark tho, you'd need to get a FP gauge and test it out.

correct starting technique was everything 4 me. If i touched the gas it was history. When it did light off, after 3secs, it would sound really loaded and sour. Now, I spin it for about 1.5sec and then touch the gas and boom. Just about 10 to 15sec of real light throttle and it will idle.
Not bad for a demon 1020cfm carb and 240degress of cam duration.
Sounds awesome too (4inch mufflex) . I will be getting one of these next week http://www.sonystyle.com/digitalimag...re_TRV17.shtml so I will be able to cut a mpeg and post it here.

lol, my timing is anybody's guess (did it until it held an idle) and my car starts on the 2nd turn over when cold, right away when warm. That's a 9.1:1 CR 330hp 350 using an unknown age stock 305 Lo3 starter! hehe

agreed if you have your car tuned perfect it will fire right up, i had a 455 lesabre that i just snap my fingers on the key and it would fire right up with just bairly a bump on the starter., also a 301 pontiac same deal. FI cars never start right up like a carb car.

A couple of things come to mind. First off, according to your web site you bailed on the TBI and swapped in a carb. Did you also dump the TBI computer? From what I've been told the ECM needs a few spins to verify the readings. A carbed car should light quicker, since it doesn't bother to read sensors. Also you stated you have a big cam. This will cause more strain for the stock starter. Have you considered swapping in a mini-starter? They have higher torque and will help you start that thing quicker. Good luck, Lon.

Well, the harness and everything is still in there, but the computer has been pulled. I am also running a mini-starter from TommyJohnsonJr. Don't get me wrong my car doesn't crank and crank forever, but compared to a Chevelle I parked next to the other day it does. He just barely touched the key and WABOOM, she was lit. I touch the key for a slow count of one one thousand and she'll light up. Now on to the "supertune..."
Thanks for the help fellas,
Steve

If my car sits for awhile (a day or so) or overnight and I go to turn it on...it takes a couple of seconds for it to fire up.......after that...if I shut it off and turn it back on....or shut it off and come back like an hour later...it starts up instantly...perhaps it is the fuel pump idea.
