The lift is ok, but the duration is kind of big for a 305. With this cam you better have really good heads, manifold, and exhaust system. What have you done to the engine?

nothing yet, gm performance exhaust. headman headers in the mail and flowmaster muffler in 2 weeks.
how about this one:
Low & mid range torque & HP for 305 & 350 w/optional gearing.
Adv. Duration: 254º/264º
Gross Lift: .401''/.423''
Series: 2020
or
Adv. Duration: 266º/272º
Gross Lift: .440''/.454''
RPM Range: 2000-5000
or
Adv. Duration: 260º/272º
Gross Lift: .427''/.454''
RPM Range: 1200-5500
also i was told that a 268 grind would be too much for my 305 and would slow it down, is this true?
sorry for asking to muchm, but i am not very knowledgable when it comes to cams

It runs great for me. But, with TPI, you're going to have to get larger shorter runners and port the plenum and intake to get it up into the cam's power range. Better valve springs than stock a must, screw-in rocker studs highly recommended, ported heads and larger intake valves as well. If auto tranny, higher stall torque converter.
I wouldn't recommend your first alternative cam (not much of an improvement), the last one might be okay, though. You'll still need to "fix" your TPI to get it up into the cam's range.

my choice of the cams you have listed is the .427 .454 cam. my choice for your application would be comp cams xtreme with .432 and .453 lift and 206 and 214 duration at .050. i have also ran the .440 lift cam dynamics cam in an 86 LB9 and it worked great, but always is room for improvement.
