Probably, but itll be a restriction and could lead to vapor lock at high loads. Alternative is to use the electric in tandem with the mechanical one. GM did this on some of the carb cars to prevent vapor lock. The other alternative is to use a fuel gauge only pickup assembly.

A few people have posted saying that you cannot draw through an electric pump but its worth a try before you have the joys of dropping the gas tank!

The only thing to be weary of is that there will be a pressure drop across the pump. This could cause teh fuel to flash over at high temps if your drawing alot of gas through the pump.

I don't know about a mechanical, but another electric pump will draw through the old one, although not perfectly. My 1990's FP died, and out of town. I got an electric FP from an old Dodge Conquest, taped it to the fender, connected the lines and wired it to a run-in-hot to get me home. I actually drove the car daily for about 3 weeks like this, and although it worked, you could tell it wasn't getting the fuel it needed. I finally dropped the tank - it wasn't that bad, only took 8 hours to complete.

I tried it myself, it worked for about a minute....ended up having to drop the tank. I pulled the whole unit out of the tank and all of the lines were broke and corroded. One wire to the elec fuel pump was broke off so I disconected it all together, ran a length of fuel hose to the bottom of the assembly and attached a new filter at the end. Stuck the whole mess mess back in minus the fuel pump, took out the fuse for the pump and have no issues with getting fuel to the carb. Only deal is now I don't have a working fuel gauge...anybody think I could put the fuse back in for the fuel pump and have the gauge work with out throwing a spark inside the tank!? Hope that helps and I hope somebody can help me.
