Battery poll.

What’s everyone using?

I’m looking at getting either the Red or Yellow Optima.

Well, my battery died a little bit ago, and all I could get spur of the moment was an EverStart. It works for me.

The old everstart works 4 me too. But, the 400 turns over a little slow when hot. Being in the rear hatch requires a long run.

I heard the optima weigh 38+ lbs.

Thanks for all the info so far.

WOW 38 pounds! I didn’t realize it weighed that much. Talk about adding weight.

Ive had an everstart crap out and almost all other batterys delco, interstate, ect. Ive found that American batterys 12 volt deepcycle works best and is less expensive than an optima.

Red Optima here... Super nice battery but expensive. It is sealed, maint. free, and supposedly can be mounted at any angle with no effect to battery life. Anywhere you can get interstate batteries, they can order you an optima within a day or two. I got mine from the shop here for cheaper than summit/jegs. I got it because I wanted to relocate it to the back without a sealed box, but found out that I'm going to have to have the sealed box to pass tech anyway. I should have done my research, and I probably just would have bought a regular battery. :-( Later!

I've got a cheap stock-sized Exide in my car too, it's never given me any trouble.

I will never buy another AC Delco battery again, I've had 5 of them die within a year in 3 different cars.

Hey guys,

What the difference between Optima deep cycle and the regular Optima batteries? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a deep cycle? Does a deep cycle battery require a special alternator?

Well, as far as the yellow top goes, they really work well with car audio goodies. Lots of car audio places sell them.

Apparently they allow you to safely run your audio equipment with the car off for quite a while, and still start up your car.

I also recall a consumer reports issue on batteries, and the yellow top optima was rated #1, just not in price.

I have had an Interstate for almost five years, and never had any trouble with it. I also have a system, and it will last for hours with the car not running and start right up. Interstate all the way.
